Family: Washington married Martha Dandridge Custis (1731-1802) in 1759. They had no children.

The 1st President of the United States and the first commander and chief of the United States Army. For his great service to the nation both during the Revolutionary War and in the period of the early Republic, he has been called "The Father of His Country."

1732-Born on Feb 22, (Feb 11, old style calendar).
1748-Joins party surveying lands of Lord Fairfax.
1749-Appointed surveyor of Culpepper County, Virginia.
1752-Begins military career with commission as Major of Virginia militia; eventually becomes commander in Chief of Virginia forces.
1758-Elected to Virginia House of Burgesses; serves 1759 to 1774.
1774-Chosen delegate to First Continental Congress.
1775-Attends Second Continental Congress; named Commanding General of Continental Army.
1781-Accepts British surrender at Yorktown, ending fighting of the Revolution.
1783-Resigns commission and returns to civilian life.
1787-Serves as president of Constitutional Convention.
1789-Unanimously elected 1st President of the United States; unanimously reelected in 1792.
1797-Retires to Mount Vernon.
1799-Dies on December 14, at the age of 67.

President George Washington is not directly blood related to me. He is a member of our tree via the 2nd marriage of Mary Gregory to my 11^th great-grandfather's son James Taylor I. Mary was the 1st cousin once removed of President George Washington. Mary was also granddaughter to Mildren Washington, George's aunt, since the Gregory's married twice into the Washington family.

Mary Gregory Taylor, 1st cousin once removed of George Washington, is the wife of my 10th great-granduncle James Taylor I.
